Hot spots in your home make you uncomfortable and frustrated. Fortunately, there are several ways to cool them down and create a more comfortable living environment.
What are hot spots and what causes them?
When one area of your home is too hot compared to others, it’s called a hot spot. Hot spots may be due to excess sun and heat coming into rooms via the windows or doors or due to issues with your HVAC system.
What can you do about hot spots?
Here are some actions you can try to remedy hot spots in your home:

Ceiling fans are an effective way to cool down a room by circulating the air. They create a wind chill effect that can make the room feel several degrees cooler. This is especially true if you have high ceilings, which can trap hot air.
Sun-blocking curtains or blinds can help block out the sun’s rays and prevent the room from heating up. If you prefer natural light, try using light-filtering window coverings instead.
Another action you can take is to check for air leaks, which can occur around windows and doors. If found, caulking, spray foam or weather stripping should do the trick.
While not a quick fix, try planting trees or shrubbery to block the sun from windows.

The problem could be with your HVAC system.

First, check that your air vents are fully open and that no objects or furniture are blocking the airflow.
Improperly balanced ductwork can cause uneven cooling and heating in your home.
Other possible issues with your HVAC system range from the relatively simple like a poor thermostat location; faulty ductwork design or installation; or, even the wrong size HVAC unit for your home’s total square footage.
